Two kinds of moth cause most calls in Thornlands. Pantry moths lay eggs in flour, rice, cereal, nuts and pet food, and you usually notice small moths flying in the kitchen or webbing and larvae in packets. Clothes moths prefer dark, undisturbed wardrobes and storage, where their larvae eat wool, silk, fur and other natural fibres, leaving holes in jumpers, suits and rugs. Both are more common in warm, humid months.
The crew we book starts by finding the source, since moths usually come from one or two infested spots. For pantry moths, that means checking every shelf and container, then treating cracks and shelf edges once affected food is thrown out. For clothes moths, wardrobes, drawers, rugs and storage areas are treated, with attention to dark corners and under heavy furniture.

Before a pantry visit, empty the shelves and throw out anything with webbing, larvae or holes in the packaging. Store new dry food in sealed glass or hard plastic containers. Before a wardrobe visit, take clothes out and wash or dry clean what you can, since heat and cleaning kill eggs and larvae. Vacuum wardrobe floors and the edges of rugs, then empty the vacuum outside.
Freezing small woollen items for a few days is a handy way to deal with eggs you cannot see, and pheromone traps from a hardware store can show whether moths are still around afterwards.
